Crown Prince and Emperor
Naruhito first became crown prince just for a temporary period when his father was having a heart problem and he went to heart surgery. His reign only was for two weeks however Naruhito has expressed how much he learned from it despite the short period. In 2017, it was announced that Naruhito was about to take reign from his father as the emperor in 2019. At the beginning of 2019, Naruhito’s father was about to take abdication ceremony after ruling for over three decades on the throne.
Naruhito became the first emperor of the Raiwa Era on May 1st, 2019. The transition of the throne started at midnight and in the early morning of May Naruhito officially became the Emperor of the throne. Despite becoming an emperor Naruhito does not have any political power within the government and it is purely only based on ceremony and tradition that has lasted for several decades.
Naruhito finally got his ceremony in October 2019. In July 2021, Naruhito got the opportunity to host and inaugurate the summer 2020 Olympics which was postponed a year later 2021.
